Gutter IQ vs GutterApp

GutterApp and Gutter IQ are the two gutter-specific business apps we could find, as opposed to a general contractor CRM with a gutter landing page. They overlap on the CRM and quoting basics and split hard on measurement. Here is the honest breakdown.

The short version

GutterApp is a free, gutter-specific business app: quotes and contracts, payments with a promoted zero-merchant-fee option, a customer database, an aluminum/copper coil calculator, a vetted supplier directory and a free training library (Gutter School). Its published materials do not describe an aerial or satellite measurement feature, so quoting still starts with your own numbers.

Gutter IQ starts at the measurement: trace the eaves from a satellite image or scan on site with iPhone AR and LiDAR, and that measurement flows straight into a branded, e-signed estimate with Stripe payments built in. One flat price, $29 a month, rather than payment-processing revenue as the business model.

On pricing. GutterApp does not publish a subscription price; the app is free to download, with revenue described as coming from payment-processing fees and optional paid pro services (coaching, insurance, accounting, virtual assistants, website development). Gutter IQ publishes one number: $29 a month, unlimited measurements, everything included. Check GutterApp’s own site for their current details, and ours for ours. A competitor’s price quoted on someone else’s website goes stale the day they change it.

When GutterApp is the better choice

When Gutter IQ is the better fit

Questions people actually ask

Is GutterApp free?

To download, yes. Their published materials describe revenue coming from payment-processing fees (promoted as zero merchant fee under a dual-pricing model) plus optional paid pro services like coaching, insurance and website development, rather than a subscription. Gutter IQ instead publishes one flat number: $29 a month with every feature included.

Does GutterApp measure gutters from satellite imagery?

Not as far as their published feature list describes. GutterApp's materials cover quoting, contracts, payments, a coil calculator and a supplier directory, with no mention of aerial or AI measurement. Gutter IQ measures the gutter run by tracing the eaves on a satellite image, or on site with iPhone AR and LiDAR, and the total flows directly into the estimate.

What does GutterApp do better than Gutter IQ?

Two real things, down from three. A vetted supplier directory, and Gutter School, a free ongoing training library. It also runs on Android, which Gutter IQ does not, and that is the one most likely to decide it for you. The coil calculator used to be on this list; Gutter IQ shipped one in August 2026 that fills the gutter run in from the job measurement, and there is a free public version at mygutteriq.com/gutter-coil-calculator that needs no account.

Does Gutter IQ have a coil calculator like GutterApp?

Yes, as of August 2026, for aluminum and copper. The difference is where the number comes from: Gutter IQ already measured the gutter run, so the calculator fills the footage in rather than making you retype it, and it works out downspout stock separately because that is a different coil in a different gauge. There is also a free public version at gutter-coil-calculator that works without an account.

Can I switch from GutterApp to Gutter IQ?

There is no one-click importer between two independent products. The practical path is exporting your customer list and re-entering open jobs by hand, then running both for a couple of weeks while new work goes into Gutter IQ. Job history and photo archives do not transfer automatically on any switch between unrelated platforms, ours included.

Which is cheaper, GutterApp or Gutter IQ?

It depends entirely on your payment volume, and GutterApp does not publish a fee schedule to compare against. Gutter IQ is a flat $29 a month regardless of how much you process. If most of your revenue moves through card payments, run the math on your own processing volume against $29 before assuming free is cheaper.

The rest of the job, not just the measurement

Comparing us with GutterApp usually stops at measurement and price. Over a year the difference people actually feel is what happens between jobs: the call that comes in while you are on a roof, and the receipts that decide what the job really earned.

Front Desk: a business line that rings your phone

A real business phone number for your gutter company, built in. Place and answer calls, keep a shared call log the whole team can see, and text customers from a number that is not your cell. Incoming calls ring your iPhone with the standard call screen, on the lock screen, whether the app is open or closed. Every paid plan includes a real business phone number, free, with 120 minutes a month. See how Front Desk works.

Tax Central: expenses, receipts and W-9s

Track business expenses by job and by Schedule C category, so profit per job is a number you can see rather than one you work out in January. Scan a receipt with your camera, and collect a signed W-9 from every subcontractor you pay.

Timeclock: clock in from the truck, approve from the office

Your crew clocks in and out from the app with a location stamp on every punch, logs breaks as they take them, and submits each shift for approval when it ends. Owners, admins and team leaders approve or correct time for the people under them, and approved hours export as a CSV for payroll. Included with Platinum and Enterprise at no charge. On every other paid plan it is a flat monthly add-on for the whole company, not per user, and trials can use it during the trial. See what each plan includes.

Front Desk, Tax Central and Timeclock, answered

Does Gutter IQ include a business phone number?

Yes. Every paid plan includes a real business phone number at no extra cost, with 120 minutes a month. You pick your own local number in about thirty seconds. Calls and texts run from the app or a browser and always show the business number rather than a personal cell, and every call files itself against the customer it came from.

What does the AI receptionist actually do?

Turn on the AI receptionist and she answers when you cannot. She knows your services, your hours and your service area, books estimates straight onto your calendar, takes a message when the caller needs a person, and emails you the recording and a summary. Both sides are told the call is recorded, and recording can be switched off. It is optional: the business line works on its own with your team answering.

Do incoming calls ring the phone when the app is closed?

Yes, on iPhone. Front Desk calls ring with the standard iPhone call screen, on the lock screen, whether the app is open, in the background or closed, and appear in Recents like any other call. An Android build is in development with no release date announced.

Can I track expenses and 1099 paperwork in Gutter IQ?

Yes, in Tax Central. Track business expenses by job and by Schedule C category, scan a receipt with your camera to fill in the vendor, amount and category, and collect a signed W-9 from every subcontractor you pay. Taxpayer numbers are encrypted and shown only as the last four digits.

Does Gutter IQ have a timeclock for my crew?

Yes. Timeclock lets each person clock in and out from the app, pick the job they are on, and log breaks as they take them, with a location stamp on every punch. Shifts are submitted for approval when they end; owners and admins see everyone, team leaders see the people under them, and employees request corrections rather than editing the record. Approved hours export as a CSV for payroll. Included with Platinum and Enterprise at no charge. On every other paid plan it is a flat monthly add-on for the whole company, not per user, and trials can use it during the trial.
